MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY
_
No this is not mental health advice. See a professional for that. A lot of us never learned that we have the right to prioritise our own happiness. So we learnt to find happiness in the approval of others. The tricky thing is, you’re the only one who can make you happy.
That giant hole that we’ve all known at some point, that great destroyer that sucks it allllll up in there. There’s no one in the world who could love you enough to fill it. Lifetimes of time and energy from loved ones have been thrown into it and not filled it. We can’t fill the void in each other no matter how much it feels like you need that to be the answer. We all go through this at some point, some more than others.
That freaking hole is endless unless you first want to, and then figure out how to, build it from the ground up, be aware of it, understand the source of the issue and find a sense of compassion towards yourself and those things that created the hole, to change your self talk and behavioural patterns. It takes time, work, self-awareness, it’s constant, and it’s totally worth it.
Learning to make yourself happy is such a skill. It starts with little steps, understanding yourself, listening to the little voice, prioritising pleasure. Listen to some podcasts, find some examples, take a walk.
